inochi is passionate and conscientious about understanding and implementing sustainable,
environmentally friendly design. This is a primary focus for inochi.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?

Sustainability involves people, culture and the environment. It can be defined as the ability or capacity
to be maintained or sustain itself. It's about living now without jeopardising life in the future.

Being conscientious about where the products you are buying come from, is an important factor when
coming to sustainable living. As an example, you can buy imported timber to use in your home etc, but have no idea of the harvesting process that has taken place in order to produce it. In some cases, animals are harmed and care is not taken as to whether the forest can re-grow for further use of timber. A great example of sustainable practice is by purchasing timber harvested from native NSW state forests. Timber is harvested from the same forests over and over again in NSW. They continue to provide us with timber, as no more timber is cut then the forest can re-grow. Timber harvesting in native forests are carried out so that erosion is minimised, species, habitat and culture heritage sites are protected and trees remain to provide seed so the forest can re-grow naturally after harvesting.

WHAT IS 'ECO FRIENDLY'?

Eco friendly refers to doing our best in using products with minimal or no harm to our environment,
extended to the use of biodegradable, reusable, recyclable and/or non-toxic ingredients, products
and packaging. It can also be referred to as sustainable living and/or environmentally friendly.

SUSTAINABLE AND ECO FRIENDLY DESIGN

Also known as 'green design', 'eco-design' or 'design for the environment' is the art of designing physical objects and the built environment to comply with the principles of economic, social and ecological sustainability. The aim of sustainable design is to reduce the use of non-renewable resources. Green
design is maintaining quality of life by using clever designs to substitute less harmful products and
processes for that of conventional ones. Sustainable design is becoming increasingly popular within
the fields of architecture, interior design, landscape design, urban planning and design and industrial design.

In applying 'a greener' alternative through sustainable and eco-friendly design, it is important to know that the design does not need to be compromised. Some of the most modern of buildings today are that of eco-friendly living, where the design is just as important as the environment.
